The Difference

"NEW" CALUSA CAST NET DESIGN

The most frequently asked question we receive is, "Calusa vs. Cracker- what's the difference between the nets?" Well, let us try to explain things.

First of all, both the Calusa and the Cracker ARE handmade, 6 panel cast nets. Both nets feature 1.5 pounds of lead weight per foot. This means that both nets are designed to throw easily, open smoothly, lie flat and sink fast! Making the best net for the best price on the market.

The differences are in the details, as the say.

First, the mesh of the Calusa nets are made from the highest quality copolymer monofilament.  We make sure that the quality of both nets is high, and both feel soft, but under normal use, the Calusa cast net should last longer and stay softer longer than the Cracker.

1. New Calusa net has a 1 1/4" horn opening. Allowing the net to lay flat with minimal bait loss. Cracker has a horn opening of 3/4". First picture below.

2. New Calusa cast net is now reinforced at the top and the bottom (1"-2")with stronger mono.(Shown in Blue mono.) Making the net stronger in these stress areas. No other cast net on the market provides this detail to quality .

3. New Calusa net 100 lb braile lines(mono. lines through the net). Cracker net 80 lb.

4. New Calusa net is attached at every mesh on the lead line. (picture 2 left side). Making for a stonger cast net and less bait loss. Cracker cast net is attached the traditional way three to four times between leads.

So, which is right for you? Well, both nets are handmade. Both nets have panel construction. Both nets weigh the same, lie as flat and throw as easy. Under normal usage, the Calusa should last longer and stay softer longer than the Cracker. If you're the type of person to whom quality is paramount, and cost is secondary, then the Calusa is the net for you. If quality is important, but budget is equally important, then the Cracker is right for you.

Either way, you're getting a net that throws easier, lies flatter and sinks faster than the competition. When you want to get bait, and you need every throw to count, you can't go wrong with a net from the Calusa Trading Company!
